I heard a comedian say one time that, “Stand up comedy is pretty easy. You have a handful of jokes and you travel around for a year telling the same jokes until they are flawless. Pastors however, have to come up with new material every week. A new book report every time. ON THE SAME BOOK!”

Kidding aside, it’s an incredible honor to preach the Word of God and it carries a weight every time we dive into the sacred Scripture. No matter how great a sermon is received, there’s always this desire to do better and represent the Word at the level it deserves! It’s an ongoing challenge for me and probably all preachers.

At Revive, we plan out our sermons a year at a time. About 10 days before the sermon is taught I meet with an AMAZING group of men and women to discuss the passage from different angles. Then, I manuscript every word the day before I preach. Sunday morning I roll in early and build my slides. That’s a year before, a week before, a day before and an hour before, I’m processing the sermon in the Presence of God.

One of my favorite sermons Called “The Lost Heart of Compassion.” It’s the heart of Christ, the heart of Revive and what I long for my heart to fully grasp.
